Chefs working in the care sector will have a chance to showcase their skills in a competition run by the National Association of Care Catering (NACC). The event will include chefs from residential homes and community services competing to win the Care Chef of the Year 2018 award.
Chefs Put To The Test
The yearly contest is one of the UK’s longest-running, independent recipe competitions and the NACC aims to challenge chefs. Entrants must create a nutritional two-course menu (main and dessert). The food must be suitable for users of various care services. The menu must incorporate a Premier Foods brand included in the entry brochure. The combined cost of the main meal and dessert should be no more than £2.25 per person, based upon three portions.
A panel of professionals will judge paper entries in the first round of the competition. Innovation, taste, menu balance, cost, suitability to environment and compliance with nutrition guidelines will all be factors in deciding which chefs qualify for the regional heats.
The regional heats will take place in March 2018 and contestants will have 90 minutes to complete their dishes. The top two contestants will advance to the final which takes place on 6 June 2018 at Barking & Dagenham Technical Skills Industry. Entries must be submitted by 2nd February 2018.
